The Rio+20 Global Town Hall
ICLEI's main event at Rio+20 will be the Rio+20 Global Town Hall. It will be set in a venue close to the official Rio+20 proceedings and take place in parallel to the conference. The Rio+20 Global Town Hall will be an inviting and open setting where local leaders, the conference delegates, international organizations, and business can meet up and discuss the urban future. What does the world need to look like in 2030 and how can urban areas become part of the solution to realize this?
The Rio+20 Global Town Hall will offer a rich program of presentations, debates, seminars, and performances. The main goal will be to highlight the experience and capacities of local governments and work towards their utilization in the post Rio+20 global sustainable development framework. The Rio+20 Global Town Hall will also serve as a communicative space where actors from different sectors and levels can interact and join forces.
The Rio+20 Global Town Hall will be open to everybody who is interested in attending. However, due to its location in a UN restricted area, only people who have pre-registered to the conference will be able to access it. For more information on pre-registration via ICLEI, please click here, and for more information on registration at Rio+20 in general, please click here.
A number of organizations and actors have confirmed their involvement with the Rio+20 Global Town Hall, and discussions are in progress with a range of others. Thus far, a number of partners and endorsers have come on board. For a complete list, please click here.
