ICLEI at Rio+20
The Rio+20 UN Conference on Sustainable Development took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 20-22 June 2012. ICLEI has been involved in the Rio+20 process in three ways.
- Advocacy: As Local Authorities Major Group Organizing Partner, ICLEI facilitated the presence and active participation of local governments. Read about ICLEI at Rio+20, an evaluation of ICLEI of the Rio+20 outcome and how ICLEI continues to drive agendas for sustainable cities here.
- Global Town Hall : We organized the biggest gathering of key actors in urban sustainability! From 18-22 June, the Global Town Hall saw 24 sessions with over hundred speakers and 5000 delegates.
- Participation in partners' events: ICLEI held a successful official side event "Decisions we need for the city of 2030", and ICLEI Mayors and staff were asked to speak at about 25 side events organized by partner organizations.
